Yeah...Tubby Smith is pretty good UPDATE
« on: December 20, 2008, 01:21:02 PM »

Gopher Nation!

MN - 70
#9 Louisville - 64

On a neutral court. Tubby's got them undefeated at 10-0 in his second year. Shocked

And he's got a couple studs coming in next year.

i notice you mentioned the only quality opponent they've faced.  Devil

the big ten is shaping up to be one tough sum bitch this year with quality teams top to bottom. it's going to be tough to win on the road that's for sure.  Wink

Because that's who they played yesterday.  Devil Their RPI was 28 going into yesterday's game.  Wink  I'm not taking away anything from what these guys have done though. Knocking off a top ten team on a neutral court takes away a lot of arguments about scheduling.

The Big Ten is looking like they have some very solid teams this year. I agree that it appears the depth is better than it has been the past few years.

Bittersweet what with the alma mater going down in flames but....

MN -78
WI -74  OT

Minnesota goes to 4-1 in conference and 16-1 overall. The turnaround Tubby has directed in the past two years has been incredible.

I still don't think they will go more than one or two games deep in the NCAA tourney this year, but they have surprised me with their run. Allegedly Tubby's recruiting class next year will be ranked very highly so it definitely looks like he's got the program headed in the right direction.

Wisconsin was leading by as many as 14 points early in the second half and had a comfortable nine-point lead with 3:24 left........

It's only the ninth loss at the Kohl Center in Wisconsin's eight seasons under coach Bo Ryan, and the Badgers' fourth Big Ten loss at home under Ryan.

Did you ever explain how you ended up becoming a weasel instead of a golden rodent?

I don't recall. So here goes.......

The states of Minnesota and Wisconsin have reciprocity tuition agreements. Things have probably changed a bit but when I went to Madison I paid the equivalent of in-state tuition at the U of M. So that was nice.

Then there was the fact that there are a number of good engineering schools in the Big Ten and UW was rated higher than UM at the time. And very highly nationally.

Next came my desire to be far enough away from home that I was "on my own" and couldn't easily make it home every weekend. The single biggest education of college IMO.

Then I visited the campus and it was sealed. Madison is very cool and the campus setting rocks.

Lastly, and this was minor but still, Minnesota had a goofy trimester schedule where classes started the last week of September and ended mid to late June. Everywhere else I looked had the standard ~labor day start, May finish with two semesters. Minnesota has since changed to the "standard" two semester format.
