Exciting News!
« on: April 05, 2011, 10:32:50 AM »

A long time ago, you all were curious about my plans for the future.  I don't know if you're still interested it such a thing now, but I thought you all might like to share in my praise.

A few months back, I received an e-mail form the operations manager of my favorite radio station asking when might be a good time to talk about their in-house women's Bible study program.  I've done some volunteer work for them before, as well as some temp work in an office associate/program manager position.  I've really enjoyed my time down at the station, and I think they know that very well.  So anyway, since the Bible study is done voluntarily by several local pastors' wives, my first thought was perhaps they needed some volunteer help with it.  I know I had mentioned in a couple passing conversations that I've been running the sound booth at my church for the past several years, but I didn't think that had been noted.  And maybe it wasn't... I haven't really asked why they thought of me; I'm just delighted that they did.  Anyway (again), on the phone he told me they were looking for someone to edit the program for them, and he was wondering if it might be something of interest to me.

I must say, I really hadn't been planning on looking for a job until sometime this coming summer or fall, so that everyone would have time to adjust to a more normal lifestyle.  Even then, I was contemplating if I wanted to start looking for a job or take college courses first.  At the same time, this was kind of like a dream that had the possibility of coming true!  You see, I had known for some time that they weren't doing the actual editing for the study in-house because their staff is just too busy with their current responsibilites.  Then through a course of events, it had been taken over by the new office associate that they hired last summer.  After all that, I hadn't really thought I'd have an opportunity for something like this, and I never mentioned it to anyone either, except my Lord.  I wanted to jump on it right away, but at the same time I was hesitant for my family's sake.  I prayed about it for awhile.  The answer wasn't vocal of course, but it became so clear that He put an open door there for me and wanted me to walk through it.

So I went down the the station, and the associate gave me a run-through of how they would like them completed as well as their nomenclatures and all that.  I edited 3 program episodes while I was down there, and just had a good time with the staff.  The afternoon host is a packer fan... we've done a bit of good-natured sparring over it these past few years not just in person but via e-mail, and that day was no exception.  I even brought him a nice, pretty Minnesota postcard.

It's just been amazing so far!  I've always wanted to work in a ministry-oriented position, and it's fullfilled that.  They've set it up so their subcontracting me, which is wonderful because I have freedom to work around family matters, other volunteer opportunities, work ahead & take time off as necessary without having to clear it, and I can still volunteer at the station as well!  I've had to invest in a laptop (I know, what a hardship!); it finally arrived, and I'm so pleased with it.

I'm also excited that the program will be available as a podcast as well.  I've been writing up small summaries for each one as I go along, and it'll be neat once they'r released - another thing they've asked me to come down to help with.
