Coffee question
« on: March 19, 2007, 02:53:36 PM » |

For those of you that drink coffee, where do you usually get it from? This is pretty open-ended, I'm just curious about people's coffee drinking habits and the source of everyone's coffee. For me, at work I usually rotate between 3 places, a place called People's Cafe, a chain joint called JavaCity, and a small deli that serves Yemen coffee. My office doesn't supply coffee. For my commute, I go for something quick with a drive-thru....Starbucks or McDonalds. At home, we usually get whole beans from Peets, either Sulawesi Kalosi or Kenyan. How 'bout you?

When possible I get the house blend from Salt Lake Roasting Company, but they aren't terribly convenient to us, so it's a rare treat. Lately we've been buying whole beans from Costco. I don't remember the brand, Seattle Mountain or something like that, but it's decent (not nearly as good as the fresh roasted stuff) and you can't really beat the price- 3 lbs for $10.

We buy beans from the locally-owned, regionally-operated Harris-Teeter supermarket chain. Generally, we get the organic and/or free-trade beans. In a cup, I go to one of a handful of locally-owned mom-and-pop coffee shops. (Did you expect anything different? )

Beans lately have been the 8 O'Clock brand. At home it is usually expresso (bought my wife a super automatic machine to cut down the money sent to Starbucks...I think she was trying to buy the franchise one cup at a time). In the office I use the Green Mountain single serving cup things for the coffee machine I have been "testing" for two years now On the road, generally Starbucks or 7-11

I've traveled to Japan about once a year for the past decade. I just learned last year that Tully's was Seattle based. They are all over the place in Tokyo. I really like their coffee but I honestly thought it was a Japan company because I had never heard of them in the States. Around here I like Caribou Coffee or Dunn Brothers.

Coffee Tree House, or Starbucks, mainly cause they are in the route of the home - work routine.

'Nother Tully's "The Official Coffee Roaster's Of The Seattle Mariner's" afficionado here.
Baseball or Breakfast Blend whole bean (or ground if it's on sale), and I have not one, but TWO Tully's stands pretty close to the house.
Costco's beans are roasted by Starbucks, IIRC.
I do do alot of Starbucks or SBC as well, but they are now the same company.
Another brand I purchase occasionally is a San Francisco based roaster called Don Francisco, which was 'Specialty' before 'Specialty' became a term. Relatively inexpensive as well...

My office supplies a strange brown liquid that smells, but does not taste, like coffee. So, I stick with tea most of the time.
I do love an extra-sweet, home-brewed cup of strong Peet's Kenyan, though.
