I like beagles. They're sweet and gentle and kind of goofy and dumb. Their half bark/half howl cracks me up. Like most hounds, they also have a very strong prey drive, so like dyst says you really have to keep them on a leash out in public. If I were to go for a smaller dog, a beagle would probably be on the list of contenders. (But I'd most likely go for a Staffordshire Bull Terrier.)

Here is Jazs Aussie/Border Collie mix. Her name is a play on initials of the boys' names.

We got Jazs first and she needed a companion other then us. Then a co worker had a puppy who's mother had been killed. Both dogs were given up by their owners and we took them in. Jazs is just a wee bit energetic (think it could be the breed? ) and Harley is a teddy bear. Both are less then 3 years old, Harley is actually 1 1/2.

My Ozzy's brother ended being a "Harley", he went to people with the last name of Davidson.
