Pariser noted that music labels make no money on touring, radio, or merchandise, which leaves the company particularly exposed to the negative effects of file-sharing. "It's my personal belief that Sony BMG is half the size now as it was in 2000," she said, thanks to piracy. In Pariser's view, "when people steal, when they take music without compensation, we are harmed." So Sony, who to blame? why would anyone copy music onto dvd-rs

What was it? I was no less honorable. I wanted to do good. What betrayed me? My mind? My heart? Why do I condemn myself so? I swear, on the lives of my children: Give me a chance to redeem myself, and I will sin, no more.

It's interesting that while some labels are calling you a criminal for copying your own CDs, others are actually embracing DRM-free music. Amazon recently launched its MP3 download service, which has a fairly substantial catalog, so some of the major labels had to have given Amazon their blessings.
The way they have to position this service is to convince customers that it's far better to pay a nominal fee (it's only 89 cents!) to get the best possible transfer, at a high bit rate, with all the tags automatically populated than it is to copy the files from a P2P source with no guarantee of any of this. I think all these benefits are easily worth 89 cents. Heck, I would feel like a cheapskate to drop just 89 cents into the guitar case of a guy playing on the street corner.
Are the downloads from Amazon DRM free? I, for one hate spending 13-15 USD for a cd, only to find that it has one or two songs that are worth a chit.

I heard on the radio today that record companies, or who the hell ever........gets money for every CD-R sold to combat/pay for the issue. Started back when the Walkman was introduced, and the started with recordable cassette tapes. I had no idea.
