Par 3s vs. Par 4s vs. Par 5s
« on: November 09, 2006, 01:10:26 PM »

I used to think that I generally scored best (relative to par) on par 5s.  But looking at my stats just now, it looks like my par 5 average has gone up way up.

Par 3 Avg: 4.15
Par 4 Avg: 5.46
Par 5 Avg: 6.19

I used to have my par 5 Avg under 6 for a while, but I've really let it go recently. Sad  I need to work on that.

I'm wondering what it's like for other people.  Do you usually do best on par 3s, par 4s or par 5s?

I wish I knew.  I stopped using the FGI system quite a while ago because it doesn't calculate indexes correctly.  The stats part of it was pretty cool and fairly useful but I never seemed to get around to entering my scores for just that functionality.

I'm writing a web-based index tracker over the winter.  I plan on doing some cool things along the lines of providing cool metrics.  It'll probably come along slowly as I'll be doing it in my spare time.  For now, I'm just using Excel.

Lacking hard numbers I'd have to say that I probably do best on par fives.  I don't get too many birdies but when I do it's almost always a par five.  Every now and again I'll stick an approach on a par four or nail a tee shot on a par three and get a birdie.  But not as often as I'll double  or even triple the hole.   Sad

Par 4 - 4.79
Par 5 - 5.57

Uisce Beatha, maybe you'll share your index tracker with the rest of us.
