Costco myths and facts
The retailer, which is now fifth in the U.S. and seventh worldwide, in some ways thrives on surprise. In the public mind, the chain is associated with blue-collar or middle-class shoppers. In reality, the average Costco shopper in the U.S. has an average annual income of $72,000, higher than the $59,600 average for the nation as a whole. Over 50 percent of the women and men in the top 10 percent income bracket shop at the chain.

I also read that majority of Costco shoppers own a home. Everybody loves saving money. So even if you were making large money you'd probably still frequent these types of stores.  Wink

I'm not going to be embarrassed about working my ass off to get to where I am.  But we're also not very consumerist.(*)  The amount we'd save buying from some warehouse wouldn't amount to much, anyway.

(*) = For example, I've bought three stereo receivers since 1985; the second and third were only because the ones before them broke.  I'm on my second CD player in that time span; only one DVD player in that span (and no Blueray/HD-DVD in our future, either).  We own one TV; yeah, it's an HD model, but we talked about it for about two years before we finally had our old one die and force our hands.  The bulk of my golf crap, and all the name-brand stuff with one exception, was bought used.

The odd thing is, I'm cheap.  Shocked Embarrassed

(And the above should not be construed to mean that anyone not making a lawyer's income didn't work hard to get to wherever such person is.  Just that you don't wake up and find the law degree and job offer under the Christmas tree.  I chose my path, others chose theirs.  We each live with the good and the bad of our choices.

Are you through being parenthetical or is there more to come?

We used to have a Sam's Club membership.  Always been closer for us.  However, we head there once, maybe twice, a year so we let it expire.

We have a Costco membership - my wife's staple Costco buys: dog food, Diet Coke, steak, toilet paper and other toiletries, office supplies, baby stuff.  If she's throwing a baby shower or a party, she shops there.  When she shops there, it is to spend $100 or more; otherwise, she doesn't make the trip.  I go there twice a year, simply to spend time with her.

I have 3 growing boys. Buying in bulk is a bi-monthly event. We go to Sams, closer. Parents belong to Costco. No real difference between the two.
