Turkey's not bad, but there are bourbons just as good at lower price points (Old Grand Dad, and Ezra Brooks), and bourbons at that price point that are better (Bulliet, Maker's Mark, Jim Beam Black Label, etc). Nothing beats a small-batch bourbon (Knob Creek, Woodford Reserve, 1792), but they're pretty spendy, and too much of it and your taste for the less expensive stuff can be severely crippled. The boss, god bless him, gave me a bottle of Knob Creek last week for the work I did to get us through our JCAHO survey.
nice to see elijah craig brand get a mention. not. i was enjoying that nobody knew what it is and it's always *relatively* easy to find (excluding PA of course)
It makes an occasional appearance around here, but it's not regular stock. I didn't realize they were the same company as Evan Williams (E-Dub, as the kids call it), which is probably your best option if you're mixing it. All bourbon pretty much tastes the same over Coke, but rock gut like Ancient Age carries the most wicked hangovers you're ever going to have. E-Dub is the cheapest bourbon I've found that doesn't make me want to die the following day. Not recommended straight up or with water.
It was a very sad day when the state monopoly quit selling Old Forester. At $12/bottle it was one of the few true bargains I ever found at the State Liquor Store.
