Pitchfork robber sent packing twice
August 13, 2008 - 7:11AM
A would-be robber was thwarted in two attempts at hold-ups in Melbourne last night including one where he went into a shop armed with a pitchfork.

Police said the man was disarmed by a customer after brandishing the pitchfork and demanding money in a milk bar in Nicholson Street in Brunswick West shortly before 7pm (AEST).

An hour later, this time armed with a metal rod, it's alleged the same man walked into a service station in Moreland Road and again demanded cash.

But the service station attendant refused to hand over any money and the man left empty handed.

A short time later he was spotted by police, still carrying the metal rod.

A 22-year-old man is expected to be charged with two counts of attempted armed robbery and will appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court today.

Russia has invaded a sovereign neighboring state and threatens a democratic government elected by its people. Such an action is unacceptable in the 21st century.
