Best Poorly Planned Sale/Promotion/Giveaway/Etc. You Took Advantage Of?
« on: March 10, 2010, 08:23:34 PM »

The 2 and 3 cent Quarter Pounder's with Cheese at the one franchise was pretty good while it lasted.

I think the best for me was a Coats for the needy drive that was held.  The ad that was run was "Bring in any new or used winter coat or jacket and receive a $10.00 gift card to Houlihan's for every coat donated."  That's all they said.

Ok.  I'll bite.  I grabbed every jacket I could sneak out of the house (Old, non-fitting, out of style, Grandma Jeans lot we had after she passed away, previous garage sale fodder that no one wanted for a quarter, etc.) and ran it down there.  I had 11 all together.  Plunked them down on the counter.  The girl wasn't quite sure about the process because it just started that day.  She called back to someone else and said this guy has some coats for "that dealie".  The voice came back "Ok give him a gift card for each one, they're in the cabinet."

Thank you.  "No.  Thank you.  How long are you running this?"  I'm not sure.  "I have more coats, I'll be back."

Goodwill, Salvation Army, you name it. A buck or two for a decent return.  Well and a good cause.

They finally cut me off but I ended up with over 500 bucks for beer at Houlihan's.

In thinking about that "my beer is warm" episode of yours at Hooters, and now this, I've come to the conclusion, that, mate, you're a *goshdarn* genius!!

My wife once basically stole a rug from a department store sale that was obviously mistagged.  I don't remember the specific numbers, but let's just say she spent somewhere on the order of $100 for a rug that should have sold for a few thousand or more.

All I really remember is that it was a moral dilemma.

The only thing I remember is the 1984 McDonald's Olympics scratch-off promotion. That was a long time ago, so I only remember these few details:

1. You scratch off the silver *feces* to reveal the event.
2. If the US American competitor receives a bronze medal in that event, you get a free small soda. If the US American competitor receives a silver medal, you get a free small order of fries. If the US American competitor receives a gold medal, you get a free Big Mac.
3. The entire Soviet bloc boycotts the 1984 games. McDonald's says "*fudge* it. We'll still do it."
4. US Americans clean house.
5. In one swimming event, two US Americans tied for first place and win double gold medals.
6. I have a scratcher for that event.
7. I order two waters with the 2 Big Macs and share one with my BFF since I couldn't eat that much back then.

Damn it!  Weren't those the days? And remember Coke bottle caps that you had to dig in with your fingernails and peel back the grey rubber?

Now you can't do *feces* without going on line and then having to "register".  I refuse to do any of it.  Who knows how many millions of dollars, plasma tvs, and yachts I've lost on everything from Mack Donalds to Walgreens.

Intergoogles ruined everything.

I thought about filing a class action law suit for those people with no intertubes access. No purchase necessary, etc. and so forth.
