Sounds like you need to work on your putting more than anything else.

putting was abysmal.

You should buy Dave Pelz's book. It won't help your putting, but it will give you alot more excuses for sucking:

'My putter loft is too low'.

'My putter loft is too high'

'My putters lie angle isn't right for these greens'

'My balls aren't balanced'

'My balls are balanced, but the fertilizer they use here  causes them to act like they aren't because of a chemical reaction involving my putter insert'.
