I'm not sure what else they were supposed to do with Atlanta moving to Winnipeg.

I agree realignment, but this 4 conferences thing sucks

now instead of 20% of games being played for the 'bettmann point', we'll have 50% of games played for it with the proposed schedules

 Sad

you've got to be kidding me?
the schedule can easily be tweaked in a vast variety of ways  to avoid this

Honest statement:

I don't really understand the negative schedule implications. I understand that some teams are upset about increased travel, but it's not like this is a bus league or anything.

Why do you hate San Jose and want to make them travel further to play division games than non-division?

That's the price that you have to pay for being the only big-market team playing in the same division with 3 smaller market teams.

Make those *fudge*ers in Phoenix travel to the plains of western Canada umpteen times a season. They'll end up there (or here in Seattle) eventually anyway!

My negativity is the proposed schedule/playoff structure has teams playing ~50% of games out of "conference" (currently it's ~20%)

When you are playing a "conference" game it affects you much differently as compared to out of conference when it makes sense play safe prevent hockey and settle for the bettman point as the other party receiving it isn't against you in direct playoff standings.  You're going to see teams play that style 30% more of the games now.

I dislike the Bettman point (hadn't heard the term, but LOL!) to the point that I actually leave before the shootout in the most obvious way possible. That *feces* is seriously stupid.

I also take your point about playing for the point in possibly meaningless out of conference games, but I'm not sure if I'm prepared to get outraged until I see a schedule.

Maybe if they put the bulk of in conference play towards the end of the season?
