Aske, maybe you are too young to remember the rubic's cube, but if your not.
When you first saw or got a rubic's cube, how many minutes (or should I say seconds Grin) did it take for you to figure it out?

I don't know about him, but I had the stickers off the damn thing in 15 minutes.
No need to waste the stickers -- the cube itself comes apart pretty easily if you know where to pry.

That's what I did. Cheesy

I used to be able to solve a Rubik's cube in well under two minutes.  Can't remember my PB but it was very fast.  My friend's little brother taught me.  I think he got the answer from a book.  It's all about recognizing patterns and solving for the right corner/edge in the correct order.  I can still get two rows (18 pieces) right after all these years.

We used force Vaseline into the damn things to make the action smooth.

Ha! Aske, you hack!

You stole that rhetoric straight from King_Slayer over at freechessinfo.com.

I've been talking to some regular FCIers.  pawnbrkr, bishop_guy063, kinghunt, and poison_pawn1966.

I did enjoy your tussle with Patzer.  That dude is such a tool.  I hear he's close with pawnnfool.

I never realized how important it was to have a lubed cube, or even how big the Rubik's cube really was back then, but the fact that this product even existed is pretty revealing:

What are your goals, tactics, etc, etc, etc in chess?  Reply should be no less than 500 words. Wink

destroy the opponents king.

ermmm. let me edit this tomorrow

Is it tomorrow yet? Wink

erm, nope.

I like to start with unconventional openings/defenses.  I think the strongest part of my game is either a good understanding of opening theory  as well as a great tactical mind in a small-piece endgame.   I don't memorize many openings, but I can usually come out of any game /opponent to move 12/15 or so  down 1 pawn at the most.  At the same time, by being unconventional, I often can seize early leads or push the opponent into tempo wasting moves.  My other goals in the opening are to usually seize the center, and establish the possibility to castle opposite my opponent.  In the middle game, I like to maintain my center where possible and create bad bishops for my opponent.  I find most amateurs are horrible knight players, so bad bishops, or even bishop exchanges typically find me thinking opportunistally.  I try to avoid excessively dynamic or excessively closed positions because I simply am not good enough or currently practiced enough to see combinations/compensation  very well.  Assuming I get to move 20-25 even or with a lead I tend to start trying to obliterate the opposition's king.  If the opponent is well defensed, then I will settle for piece-swaps  until we're down to a few minors and then I hope and trust I can win.

Kewl.  Thanks.

is it going to help you win?
