The north Queensland coastal town of Bowen is preparing for a very special role in a Hollywood A-list movie - pretending to be Darwin.

Around a third of the Baz Luhrmann-directed outback epic, Australia, starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, is expected to be shot in Bowen (pop. 9,500) from mid-May.
...
Mike Brunker, the Mayor of Bowen, which is 3,220km north of Brisbane, said that excitement was mounting with hundreds of would-be extras crowding in to try out for parts.

We just had Kate Hudson and Matthew McConhagty in town making the movie Fools Gold, alot of locals, got extra parts, in that movie.
