What kind of DVR?
« on: October 04, 2007, 01:21:27 PM »

Those of you that use one, what kind do you have?

We have the Comcast Motorola one, and it's not the great, so I'm looking at alternatives, including homebrew solutions.

Anyone using any of these?

I think we have the same one you have, Motorola for Verizon Fios. I don't have an option but atleast I can watch all the recordings on any TV in the house. Pretty cool.

I have a Moxi from my cable company right now - with HD support.  I like it, but it has its shortcomings - 1) Cannot watch the programming on any other device, 2) unless you add your own external USB drives the recording space is limited when recording in HD, 3) cannot burn to a DVD.

I'm getting ready (could be this weekend, could be a month from now Wink to install MythTV to see how that will work for me.

Wanting Digital/HD support I'm running into the issue of a CableCard for HD thats supported by the software AND the cable company.  I have two cards for OTA (Over The Air) signals, but that means I'll miss other Digital/HD programming and have to still use the Moxi.

I've gone to find myself.  If I get back before I return, keep me here.

Hmm, after looking around a bit, it looks like the simplest solution for me might be to connect to the motorola box through firewire.  I might try that first.
