Hehe.  They just tore down a 60s-70s era drive-in restaurant in my town.  It was a bit like that Denny's with a big old Burger Bar sign outside.  Certainly not worth keeping in my book but kind of a local landmark.

The irony.  Guess what went up in its place?

Because we'd prefer NOT to turn our city into another cookie cutter city like Sacramento or El Paso or any of another dozen overdeveloped  municipalities we could name.

The Denny's may be a bad example, but turning Ballard into just another collection of strip malls, condos and apartment buildings is no bargain, either.

I take it you've been to El Paso, then?  Wink

Seriously, we're going through something similar in the section of SE King county where I live, which right now is an eclectic mix of yuppies, working class folks, and various and sundry ne'er do wells. Of course, every time I turn around there's another strip mall going up.

It's been 5 for me. Anchorage is another one.

What's interesting is to go to Vancouver, BC and look at what economic redevlopment CAN look like, and then look at the crap job we do around here.
