Too many sicko *fudge*s out there and too many missing and exploited kids as it is.
Then you see this, and all those people walked right by her.  The one that did pick up on it, "did nothing".

I bet if that poster said airport terrorist, and there was anybody on that bench wearing anything close to resembling 11 thread count JC Penny bedding, and a suntan, they would have half of Homeland Security at the mall.

while i'm no expert,  and for that matter, i tend to view humanity in its worst forms,  IIRC some statistic a long time ago like 3/4 of child molestation /etc  is from people they know,  not strangers.

so to be fair, which way does he really want it?  he'd prefer his kid stay missing, or he'd prefer some random strange guy go approach her ?

one single false allegation can ruin someone's life.  i think i'd err on the side of caution, and just call the cops if i were in this situation.

Seriously, I'd (a) probably not notice the poster; (b) not notice that the girl was sitting alone; (c) assume Mom or Dad was nearby and the girl was just sitting (come on, she's 8, not 3); and (d) even if I did get involved, it'd be to have a store call security while I kept an eye on her.  I wouldn't move her or sit down next to her -- too many idiots out there that could cause me trouble for innocent Samaritan behavior.

I am probably one that would actually approach her. I have done so in the past where I see a little child alone,crying looking scared. The way I approach it is basically make a small scene. Get others involved. As long as there is a group around parents are less worried about what you are doing and realize the situation with the child. But then I have never been one to sit around and watch. I'm the guy that stops to help when first on the scene be it an accident, emergency, trouble, whatever it is.

I'm not a police man, fireman, EMT, etc.. but I would be.

And yet I understand the feelings of these strangers. It takes alot to do something. It is very easy to say "I'll let the next guy handle it, I don't want to get involved."

But so far as I can tell, this girl wasn't crying and didn't look scared.  She was just sitting there, probably looking as placid as in the Missing Child poster to make it easier to recognize her face.
