his career was ruined by being an expo.  that pathetic park blew out his knees so prematurely it's criminal.  he was hitting 425 foot homers at wrigley using just his upper body in the tail end of his career, unfortunately his stats really plummeted towards the tail end.   he was possibly the greatest guy at throwing runners out from RF i've ever seen....  he should probably be in, but probably won't be, because not enough people will put his accomplishments in perspective of essentially playing legless for the last 10? years of his career.

He certainly deserves to be in the Hall.  Somehow voters overlook some players from smaller markets and once that precedent has been set, it's can be tough to break the trend.  I'd be that if Dawson had played his early years in New York instead of Montreal, he'd be in by now.

People seem to think an admittedly anemic OBP is an automatic disqualifier, but I say more hits than Mantle and membership in the 400/300 club MORE than offsets that, and his status as one of the most feared defensive outfielders in the game for 15 of his 21 years puts him over the top.

The first 2 words in that story are "Ryne Sandberg". All I can say is that if Ryno is in the Hall, Dawson deserves it far more.
