How many long, cardboard golfclub boxes are currently in your possession?
« on: October 23, 2006, 09:26:16 AM »

When I first started ho'ing clubs I tried to follow an unwritten rule where I would only allow myself to possess 3 long, cardboard golf boxes at one time.  The goal was to force me to sell clubs at a rate comparable to my purchases.  This also made me try to lean toward trades vs. outright purchases, so I wouldn't clutter the place with too many clubs.

I looked at the number of long cardboard boxes as sort of a Club Ho Quotient or Metric to measure my ho'ing and determine whether I was in accumulation mode or dumping mode.

This worked well for quite a while, but then all of a sudden, a Friends & Family sale came around or a few impulse buys on eBay, and I would fall behind and the boxes would pile up.  I'd just pile the boxes in my garage or shove them into corners and forget about them.  The thought was that I would get around to selling xx club or yy shafts someday, but I never got around to them.

Well, I just moved houses recently and cleaned out my old garage.  I discovered about 15 long boxes either tucked away or in my "soon to ship" pile. Oops  I recycled most of them and decided to take 4 of them with me to the new house.

So, anyway, this was a roundabout way of asking everyone how many long golfclub boxes do you currently have in your house/garage/apt?

I have a room full of boxes in my basement, Probably 8-10 long cardboard ones. Honestly, though, I don't have a tremendous surplus of clubs (extra set of wedges, and a spare putter is really all). I've pretty much acquired and traded/sold at a constant rate. I don't know how I ended up with so many boxes. I think they multiply when I'm not looking.

Zero!  All the more reason my trading and selling days are on indefinite suspension.  Not to mention that I finally am comfortable with all of my clubs.

Cleared the garage out a couple of months ago to get an extra car in.

So about 6.

Some of you guys are pretty disciplined, I'm impressed.

I'm not sure I feel comfortable only have 1 box around.  I like to use the small boxes for putters/wedges and the huge honking boxes for drivers, which end up taking a bunch of space after I'm finished taping/padding.

I'm going to try to be better now about thinning out my boxes, there was a couple of times when I used to go into the garage to grab a box to ship to someone and ended up finding a box that they had sent me a year before in a previous transaction. Grin
