Lowe's and Home Depot are equidistant from me and within 200 yards of one another.

I see that all the time.  Why do they build so close together so often?

Menards.  I don't care for Home Depot at all, not to mention their prices double or triple Menards for the same product.  I also like the layout of Menards much better.

Really depends on what I'm shopping for.

Tools, hardware, lumber, etc: Home Depot
Lighting, appliances, fixtures, etc: Lowes

I believe the poll is addressing which brand provides the best environment to impress an individual of the opposite **** for potential copulatory festivities etc and so forth.

Blader:  I see you're going with the Brazilian Cherry jatoba....an outstanding choice for a woman of your eye color.  Might I suggest you consider a zebra-themed ottoman with that?

OTOH, Lowe's is better for decorating-type stuff.

This statement combined with this:

Since they're clones I generally choose whichever is the most current NASCAR champion.

Uhhhhhhhhhh FYI, that would be Lowes this year, just so you know.

Is just more proof that the current NECKAR champion probably got his ride by engaging in 'Marital Misconduct' with the team owner...

Does anybody else miss REAL hardware stores?
HD and Lowes are just retailers and as such are no different than KMart or WalMart. No actual knowledge of product and forget it if you're actually looking for REAL woodworking tools.

I'm sorry but the 19yo girl running the "hardware" department knows less about the products than my cat does. My local HD has a guy running the contractor's desk that I fired 5 or 6 years ago for not knowing how to read a tape measure. I kid you not.

Get rid of the appliances, lighting department, and lawn tractors and HD and lowes are no bigger or better than your local True Value.

When I want dimensional lumber, I go to a lumberyard. Quality hardwoods, a woodwright's lumberyard.
The quality of the lumber is far superior and the culls are already taken out. Try, just try finding 4 straight, square, and unchecked 2X's in HD or Lowes. Bring a lunch.

Quality tools sadly are available only through catalog or the 'net right now in my area of the country.
