Pan's Labryinth

Spent the weekend with my daughter in LA. We went to see Pan's Labyrinth on Saturday. Have any of you seen it? I could not believe this film did not win best foreign picture. For that matter, I can't believe it wasn't even mentioned for best picture. I liked the Departed, but this may be one of the best movies ever. It blew me away.

Thanks for the mini-review 1pp. Let me ask you, what would you say the minimum age is for this flick? I've let my son see the odd R-rated movie and this one looks very good. Language? Violence? Neked centaurs?

Thanks for the mini-review 1pp. Let me ask you, what would you say the minimum age is for this flick? I've let my son see the odd R-rated movie and this one looks very good. Language? Violence? Neked centaurs?
There are no language issues, nor is there any nudity or ****ually explicit scenes. There is significant extreme violence necessary for the story. I would guess 15-16 and up would be appropriate. The fantasy parts of the story might be a little hard to put into actual context, but I don't think that will detract from a younger person's enjoyment. |

indeed it was a great film, working simultaneously in almost every way needed... plot, acting, cinematography, editing, direction, costumes, effects... the perfect way to tell the 'story' presented. Ivana Baquero deserved a nomination as Best Actress, and the film was definitely among the 3 best films released in 2006 (Children of Men, The Fountain). A bit of minor foul language and some grisly- realistic violence. I would have handled it by age 8-10, most 13 year olds can probably manage it for certain.

Thanks for the info gents. The boy is 12. He's seen Braveheart, the Matrix flicks, stuff like that, with no harm as far as I can see. He gets what's right, what's wrong, what's real, what's fake, etc. I'll have to think about this one but there's always one good thing about DVD... the stop button.
