$500 for two weeks in the hospital is really cheap.  The airline is lucky he's not suing for millions.

That's why I wonder if I'm reading this wrong. In my experience, a two week hospital stay (assuming it's not a high-acuity scenario) should run somewhere in the neighborhood of $15,000 - $20,000.

Then again, I'm not familiar with NZ's healthcare system, so it could be that it's some sort of a commie type deal.  Dunno

my little 3 day stay  a few years ago racked up about 18$k
