$1000 doggie booties

No link here...just a quick story that I will try to make quick - like I do with love-making
So, I moved into a new house with some hardwood floors on the main, my wife making the commitment that she would have the solution to preserve them from my 95 lb. boxer's claws. Solution = doggie booties that fit over the paws.
Click-click-click of the nails on the floor by day 2. Doggie booties taken off by the pooch and put back on by me. Click-click-click of the nails on the floor again, though cannot find the booties.
I get a call from my wife the next day (Friday) that the dog is puking every time he tries to eat or drink. Doggie booties apparently found - confirmed by the vet via x-ray. On Monday, $1000 lighter in my pocket, the dog gets back in the car following surgery, 5 lbs. lighter, stitches on his belly and rear legs (might as well take care of a couple growths while he's out), and one of those damned cones on his head.
I just could not force myself to provide a tombstone with "death by doggie booty" on it.
A couple of the meds are the fun ones that open up the plumbing...Now it's the drip-drip-drip of doggie piss on the floors.
Damn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok - my stories are never as quick as my love-making

Heh, we moved into a house with hardwood floors in the past year and briefly considered booties for the pooch. It seemed like too much work, though, and it never happened. The scratches aren't too bad unless you look closely. (our dog is only 35 lbs, though)

Ok, it's sounds like your dog is about a 10.5 handicap, so I'll play with it...Been there and done that. No advice other then "I am glad it is you and not me homay".

I feel your pain on the constant struggle between having a big, sloppy, 95 lb dog and having nice things. Generally the dog wins. I am glad, though, to see another who refuses to take the "when the dog becomes a hassle, get rid of the dog" route.
Roger on the booties. Monte refuses to wear anything on his head or on his feet and will destroy anything that gets in his way of removing them.
We've been discussing hardwood floors in the house, but we might end up going the laminate flooring (Pergo) direction. It's not as nice or nice looking but a helluva lot more scratch resistant.
Stupid dog.

Our downstairs is hardwood. Between a toddler and two dogs, the latter coming in at 75 and 100 pounds, respectively, we're just resigned to the floors needing a refinish at some point in the future (like when we're about to sell).

If I have to choose between a dog and hardwood, the pooch goes.
I have no opinion on flooring though.
