the solution is to download ubuntu.

Well, I burned the Ubuntu ISO onto a CD. I have a desktop machine at home with a mobile dock and an empty 120GB hard drive. Let's see what the big deal is.

well, if you really are new to it, trying it live off a cd before bothering to install it  could be worthwhile

also, it might be worth your while to d/l the ENTIRE dvd iso IF* you decide to install, rather than installing, then downloading all the  packages you want that aren't standard on the basic disc
