Renaissance Festival

The family went to the Carolina Renaissance Festival today. Surprisingly fun, even if you aren't an irredeemable nerd. Food to eat, beer and lattes to drink, freaks to people-watch. Did a little archery. There were some jousting events, including catching rings with their lances (oh dear!) and ending with actual jousting, complete with a dude who inadvertently got knocked off his horse. (You could tell the other one was staged, but this dude took a shot that skidded the wrong way off his shield and hammered him square in the chest -- you could hear the thump and his grunt, watch the unplanned dismount, and see the other dudes coming running to him. Oof.) Relevant to this board, I wanted to mention the seemingly ubiquitous bosom present during the Renaissance. I'm pretty sure the pestilence and shortened life expectancy are acceptable trade-offs, especially for one or two specific displays that insinuated themselves into my awareness, spousal proximity notwithstanding.

Not intentionally. It turns out that during the Renaissance, there were also a lot of gay jesters.
