Aeropress Coffee Press

Anyone ever tried one of these? It's supposed to make a killer cup of coffee. Part french press, part drip, made by the Aerobee flying disc folks. http://www.aerobie.com/Pr...ducts/aeropress_story.htmI decided to pick one up today and had to go to four stores before I found one because they were sold out. Everyone I talked to raved about the coffee this thing produces. Pre-emptive: I know what you're thinking. That sort of thing aint my bag baby.... honestly!!!

Interesting. I haven't seen one of those. I use a french press and it's >>> drip. I'll be waiting for a review.

Speaking of which: How the *fudge* does it work? 1. Remove the Superskin insert from the plastic case. 2. Place it in hot tap water, warming the Superskin insert to the desired temperature. Lightly shake the excess water off and put the insert back into the Aeropress Coffee Press case. 3. Apply lubricant to yourself and the orifice entry and internal canal of the Aeropress Coffee Press insert with a water-based lubricant. Use only water-based lubricants. The use of other types of lubricants, such as oil or silicone-based, may deteriorate the Aeropress Coffee Press Insert. Visit the Lubricants page to view recommended brands. NOTE: Be sure to use enough lubricant to allow for comfortable use and to prevent friction which may cause skin irritation. 4. Use the Aeropress Coffee Press as you would during coffee bean water-penetration. TIP: The small end cap of the Aeropress Coffee Press creates a suction on the back stroke. Tightening and loosening the cap will adjust the suction intensity. 5. After use, remove the Superskin insert from the case and run hot water through it to remove fluid deposits. For tough cleaning, we suggest using a small amount of isopropyl alcohol. NOTE: Using soap or detergents to clean your Superskin insert will deteriorate the surface of the material! 6. Towel or air dry the Superskin insert and put it back into the case for storage. Excess moisture may generate mold. Although not necessary, repowdering will restore the insert to its original silky feel. If you choose to powder, we recommend using corn starch.

Noticed no difference. After two tries in this thing is proving trickier than I expected. I thought it would be easy straight out of the box. The first time I tried it, I accidentally used two filters that were stuck together. I totally botched the pressing down and did it too quickly. Turned out really weak. 2nd cup was stronger, but not as strong as I'd like. I might be diluting it too much or need a finer grind. Will report after tomorrow's attempt. I'm hoping I can get the right technique down. I like being able to make a single cup in a minute vs. using the honking coffee maker we have. And cleanup is super quick.

Speaking of which: How the *fudge* does it work?
This is probably the best explanation: http://www.thinkgeek.com/homeoffice/kitchen/8e3a/ * Place a filter on the bottom of the Aeropress * Place the Aeropress on top of your favorite coffee mug * Put a measured scoop of coffee into the brewing chamber * Pour hot water into the brewing chamber * Using the included stirrer, mix the coffee and water * Wait twenty seconds, and place the plunger on top of the brewing chamber * Push down gently on the plunger * When the plunger reaches the bottom, pop out the puck of coffee grounds into the garbage * Enjoy your perfect cup of coffee!
