[SPOILERS] NFL WEEK 12
« on: November 23, 2008, 06:56:30 AM »

5 or 6 huge games today that can prolong another 1-2 weeks of tightness atop a few divisions or otherwise end a lot of worry right here and now.

what games are you going to watch?

Early on I think I'll flip mostly between NYJ-TENN, NEW-MIA, and PHI-BAL .  Lots of RedZone channel watching too , of course.

2 Good games late with NYG-ARI and CAR-ATL.

The Sun and Mon night games looked great on paper to start the season, but meh, I can barely get motivated for them. (Of course I'll still end up watching them probably  LOL)

the NFC "underachiever/bad coaching/inconsistency/what the f is this" effect

Team, W, L, T, W%, PF, PA, Net P, Net PPG
St. Louis   2   8   0   0.2   144   317   -173   -17.3
Detroit   0   10   0   0   173   308   -135   -13.5
Seattle   2   8   0   0.2   190   257   -67   -6.7
San Francisco   3   7   0   0.3   230   275   -45   -4.5
Minnesota   5   5   0   0.5   223   234   -11   -1.1
Washington   6   4   0   0.6   181   182   -1   -0.1
Dallas   6   4   0   0.6   230   229   1   0.1
Chicago   5   5   0   0.5   240   231   9   0.9
New Orleans   5   5   0   0.5   266   249   17   1.7
Atlanta   6   4   0   0.6   231   198   33   3.3
Tampa Bay   7   3   0   0.7   219   160   59   5.9
Arizona   7   3   0   0.7   289   228   61   6.1
Green Bay   5   5   0   0.5   274   209   65   6.5
Carolina   8   2   0   0.8   222   155   67   6.7
Philadelphia   5   4   1   0.55   264   193   71   7.1
N.Y. Giants   9   1   0   0.9   292   170   122   12.2

Philly, GB huge Net PPG even though sitting at 5-4-1 and 5-5.    Put another way, compare them to other 6-4, 5-5 teams, and THEN look at SF... 3-7 with a much less negative net PPG than GB and Philly have in net positive PPG.  Bizarre.

No teams in  the AFC seem as unusual in this metric, although DEN and SD are skewed oddly.

Cincinnati   1   9   1   0.136   148   276   -128   -11.63636364
Kansas City   1   9   0   0.1   165   273   -108   -10.8
Oakland   2   8   0   0.2   128   235   -107   -10.7
Houston   3   7   0   0.3   236   287   -51   -5.1
Denver   6   4   0   0.6   248   271   -23   -2.3
Cleveland   4   6   0   0.4   201   221   -20   -2
Indianapolis   6   4   0   0.6   224   224   0   0
Buffalo   5   5   0   0.5   219   218   1   0.1
Jacksonville   4   6   0   0.4   212   210   2   0.2
Miami   6   4   0   0.6   209   197   12   1.2
New England   6   4   0   0.6   219   194   25   2.5
San Diego   4   6   0   0.4   254   229   25   2.5
Baltimore   6   4   0   0.6   222   180   42   4.2
N.Y. Jets   7   3   0   0.7   289   221   68   6.8
Pittsburgh   8   3   0   0.727   236   160   76   6.909090909
Tennessee   10   0   0   1   244   131   113   11.3

Interestingly, in examining some aspects of parity, we see
8 teams in the AFC currently playing average games with a FG margin of victory or less. in the NFC this count is 5.
12 teams in the AFC currently playing average games with a FG margin of victory or less. in the NFC this count is 12.

What to make of this ?  The NFC is a bit more topheavy balanced than the AFC while the both conferences have their share of midlevel parity and bottomlevel crap? Seems borne out now that the cumulative NFC-AFC point differential for the year is 73 and both have 50% of their teams above 50% Wins.

St. Louis   2   8   0   0.2   144   317   -173   -17.3
Detroit   0   10   0   0   173   308   -135   -13.5
Cincinnati   1   9   1   0.136   148   276   -128   -11.63636364
Kansas City   1   9   0   0.1   165   273   -108   -10.8
