Ha! I have to do just that this afternoon, but I'll be getting 3 gallons, and maybe a movie or 3. So I guess that makes it worth it.

So the shipping guy recycles a cardboard box, and some geeks decide he's an azzhole for 'Killing Trees'?
Add in that it was apparently an overseas shipment and subject to all the vagaries that implies, up to and including just being left on the tarmac, never to be seen again and it's all pretty asinine.
The one on the pallet was even better. I've seen shipping companies completely destroy an 11 gage piece of sheetmetal before. If I'm freighting something fragile, you bet your ass it's going to be ludicrously protected.

MFAWG- sure you want to (at least in theory) protect your cargo, but at what break even cost ? -- that is to ask... how many "normally" packaged and shipped DIMMS would be lost vs. how much extra does it cost to ship each one in paranoid node? I really find it hard to believe this is cost beneficial. While DIMMS are by themselves fragile, they can be triple boxed with padding in something 20% the size of whats shown.

The box in the picture provided appears to be recycled, same with the pallett in the linked photo.
Net material cost for BOTH is probably 11 or 12 cents worth of tape and plastic bubble.
FWIW, I don't disagree that they're both a little ridiculous, but then I've done similar when time constraints or other factors were involved.

PS: Sometimes we do it just to *fudge* with people. 'How much tape can we really get on this itty-bitty box'?

That box looks in pretty good shape for even a brand new box that had been shipped overseas. It highly doubt it was reused box.
