Well That Was Embarrassing.

Winter has descended in Minnesota and the curtain has closed for what was the 2008 golf season.

So, we head indoors now to play golf on simulators.  It's not the real thing of course, but it is a good time, and beats not touching a club for 6 months.

Cruised up there yesterday afternoon with the BIL.  This place also runs a weekly league which can be fun, but we are most interested in a weekly cash payout scramble.  We get there, get set up, and tee off.  2 brilliant drives right up the gut.

The manager comes over and gives us the skinny on the scramble event.  We are grateful, exuberant, and boastful.  We thank him, and I approach my ball.  I'm 165 out, middle of the fairway.  Easy, smooth 7 iron.

I proceed to cold shank it straight into the wall, and it ricochets around the simulator like a pinball.  Doesn't even register on the screen, since that's the only part of the setup the ball never touched.

The guy laughs and says:  "Ok!  We'll see you Tuesday."

 

Humbled and broken by the experience I continued the round to a miserable 85.

Not quite.  See all that extra fluffy green and white shag on the side?  I spent more time with my ball nestled in that muff.

Last time I used one of those simulators in the winter - my swing was completely *shazbotted* by spring.  The beer did help though.
