Sorry, stroh, but it ain't always like that - something we just found out when redoing some lighting receptacles.  Our house has some things wired black to red, white to black, and black to black.  Go figure, a "simple task" made not so simple.

Nothing we do turns out simple. Huh?

I can't tell from the pic where all the cables emerge.  Where will the components be placed?
