Favorite Over The Counter Painkiller?
« on: February 06, 2009, 12:06:56 PM » |

I screwed up my back a couple of weeks ago weightlifting. I've finally realized that I'm old and my mutant healing factor is no longer there.
I've tried a few different OTC painkillers with mixed results.
Do any of you have any preference among the usual suspects for muscle ache (Advil, Aleve, aspirin, etc.)?

Which ever one is the strongest. Some of those ones specifically for period pain work the best.

Just Advil and Aleve here. But I try to avoid them as much as possible.

5PM SST surrenders Zackley. There in lies the rub. Besides, it takes away the pain just as well.

My surgeon recommended Aleve over the others after my ACL surgery.

FWIW, I've tried aspirin, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and naproxen. Good ol' aspirin seems to work best for pain relief for me, although ibuprofen seems to have a better anti-inflammatory effect. Aleve or Tylenol? I may as well take Pez.

I would recommend tylenol over ibuprofen for something like the ache of pulled muscle/back pain--- two 500mg tablets, 4 times per day--slam the hell out of it
But do not drink a lick of liquor while taking it or for two days after your last dose because alcohol causes your liver to convert tylenol to a very toxic byproduct.
advil/motrin are exactly the same...branded ibuprofen, they are better for inflammatory type problems
tylenol has greater pain-relieving effects compared to ibuprofen
aspirin in the doses you need will destroy the lining of your stomach
$250

You missed the old standby aspirin, which is still an excellent anti inflammatory and joint pain medication
If one has the type of hobbies that can result in cases of swellbow, swell knee or turned ankles, it should be indispensable.
