Wie putts to 2 feet long and left. Makes the stress-free putt to go up by 3 with 8 to play.

Wie hits a fairway wood right into a hazard. Should have gone with a driver. Huge mistake. Stanford goes driver and puts hers into the right rough.

Wie pulls out driver now to take her two club lengths. 205 out hitting 3. Better play for bogey.

Duffs her chip. Blows her putt by about 6 feet. Could be a really bad collapse.

Rain has started. Stanford hits her drive safely on 12. Michelle angrily blasts hers by Stanford's by 15 yards.

Stanford hits a mediocre approach and Wie hits a bad one. Wie would do well to avoid a three putt.

Wie leaves her first putt about 7 feet short. Stanford hits hers to about 3.5 feet.

Stanford drains a long one for birdie. Wie misses her birdie by 6 inches. AS with 5 remaining.

She stumbled on the back nine.  Still, a second place finish shows she's got the goods. Hopefully her parents will back off now that she's on the tour on her own merits.

She stumbled on the back nine.  Still, a second place finish shows she's got the goods. Hopefully her parents will back off now that she's on the tour on her own merits.

That one bad shot on 11 snowballed into two strokes. After that, she threw away at least two more strokes (missing the short birdie putt on 16 and going bunker to bunker on 17 because she went for the green on her 2nd shot). Meanwhile, Stanford made at least two bombs in her birdie run. Ultimately, it was probably Stanford's par save on 9 that really won it for her. I think with a 4 stroke lead, a shot into a hazard wouldn't have been enough for Michelle to lose her composure like that on the hole when she duffed her chip after her approach which led to her double. Had a couple of small things gone differently, the result might have been different. That goes to show you how fine the line is between winning by 3 strokes and losing by 3 strokes. Sometimes you really need breaks to win, and with enough opportunities the breaks will come.

She threw away a chance to learn how to close a deal by not playing an amateur career.

Now she has to learn how to win on the LPGA, which is going to be a lot tougher proving ground.

She's obviously good.  But she really never learned how to win tournaments against tougher competition, and so she's going to have her share of bad back nines before things get better.  IMO
