Awe - it was a decent film, I'd watch it again. But you're right - no real need to see it on the big screen.

It was awiighht, but just awiight. Too many convenient plot twists to justify the revisionism and/or pandering to the faithful for my liking. And what was up with Ninja Sulu?

Fun movie I thought. I watched the original series fairly religiously. It was one of the few American TV shows we received and of course it was syndicated continuously for years. I didn't get into it at the Trekie level though so I didn't notice any inconsistencies or reaches. It was just a fun action movie for me.

That's all I'll be looking for out of it.

Seriously thought the writing in of Nimoy's Spock was both pandering AND unnecessary.

Seriously thought the writing in of Nimoy's Spock was both pandering AND unnecessary. I don't know if it was pandering, but, man, did he look old. As for being unnecessary, I don't know how you can say that. There needed to be some connection between the future and past(present) for the plot line to work (although I acknowledge that the entire premise seems quite a stretch to begin with). While it seemed silly for two Spocks to exist simultaneously, this is the first time I've seen a serious movie address the paradox of time travel and confronting yourself. ( Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure is a non-serious one that does as well. ) Most other movies just avoid the scenario altogether. All in all, I thought it was a clever way of reimagining the series. This gives the writers the freedom to do whatever they want yet still be able to reintroduce old plot lines if they want to.

I was in Toys-R-Us on Sunday. They have this giant cardboard display for the Star Trek toy tie-ins......... It's the Enterprise, and it's gotta be about 12 by 14 feet. It's huge.
I want that sumbitch.
