Riiight.....sub-four?......oh wait..... http://www.freerepublic.c.../focus/news/2074834/postsSarah Palin not only finished Anchorage's 2005 Humpy’s Marathon , but with a blazing time of 3:59:36, fourth in her age group, and only 9 1/2 minutes off the qualifying time for the Boston Marathon . That's actually pretty damn good. But if BO gave up the cigs I think he could take her today.

Obama's got the Kenyan thing going for him, but the cigs probably are enough to wipe out that advantage.

Not that I think the folks over at Freep might be drinking the Palin Koolaid, but the real story is that 3:59 was her time for the HALF marathon, which is still a pretty good clip for 45 year old woman.

Seriously? Uh, I can walk 13 miles in 4 hours, easily.

It was the first article that came up in my Google search. Go to the Runners World article I linked (it's the source article for her claim on beating Obama) and it's referenced as a marathon. And Aske's right. 3:59 is basically walking for a 1/2. edit: here is where you can search for results and she did indeed run a 3:59 marathon: http://www.marathonguide....rowse.cfm?MIDD=1369050821

Seriously? Uh, I can walk 13 miles in 4 hours, easily. Then do it. Seriously. Then get back to me on how 'Easy' it was. I don't think it's as easy as you think it is, and I've walked farther than that in less time under ALOT more stressful conditions. Fuzz: She got busted out on this during the election, but it doesn't really matter. 13 miles in 4 hours is still a pretty good pace. For a middle aged mother of 4.5, it's outstanding.

I've run a 10k and was on my HS XC team. Although I was elite in neither, I fully understand/appreciate what a 13 miler is. And I could easily walk it.

Are you a 45 year old?
I'd guess she can do the half EASILY, and I was TOTALLY NOT KIDDING when I suggested that if somebody gave her a fresh kill, she'd know EXACTLY how to make clothing out of it.
She's really, really easy to bash, but come on now.

I should know better when to get out of a thread but this is one topic that I do feel I have more than a bit of expertise in. A 1/2 marathon in 4 hours for someone in reasonable fitness is really not that difficult to accomplish.
My wife who was never a runner got talked into running a 1/2 two years ago. She trained about 12 weeks and ran a 2:22. She was 45.
A quick search of the last 1/2 I ran last August showed that of the 119 women 40-49, only two finished over 3 hours.
The numbers from the 1/2 in Fargo in May when I ran my marathon are even more impressive. 218 of 220 women aged 45-49 finished in 3:55 or less with 180 of them under 3:00.
