Feel bad for Bradford mostly. Hey at least we scheduled someone the first game that would be tough. I know Florida was busy playing Charleston Southern while Texas plays piddlestix with Louisiana Monroe. At least we can not worry about a title and just play spoiler and win the Big 12 again anyway.

I give OU all the credit in the world for this, but I'm afraid this loss will cease their tradition of doing so (for whenever the next round of schedules forward is... I mean next season is already scheduled for sure). What I really saw in this game (and this is while Bradford was in too) OK has no passing game without Gresham. I told a guy at a pub that without Gresham in I thought BYU would at worst lose by a TD. He laughed, well seems him and the people riding that 22 point spread aren't laughing now. Smaller speed defenses are not at such* a disadvantage when they can play coverage shells that allow for more traditional routes, not having to put in bizarre schemes for a beast like Gresham. IIRC while OK was up 7-0, they were down by about 80-100 yards of offense, had 4 3 and outs, and for every positive passing play they had taken a QB hit, and for every positive running play, they had a stuff. The backup looked far tougher to tackle than Murray (that I had no guess of ). Conversely, BYU was missing their expected #1 offensive threat, and Hall looked far too reliant on pitta, and tried forcing passes when pitta wasn't there. Credit to OU for realizing this (for the most part of the 1st half) , but perhaps overconcentrating on it as several major breakdowns occurred. Biggest shock of the game, the amount of pressure that got to Bradford.... the OL penalized itself into far too many long passing downs putting the QB in danger from some exotic blitz schemes. At times it almost looked like a JV squad going aginst the varsity. While Bradford going out hurt OU, I'm not sold that they would have won the game even if he had stayed in. If this game was any indication, Bradford is going to be in for a VERY long season behind a BAD O.L. , with wideouts who can't get open quickly against average coverage units. We'll see if he has the ability to adapt and go "BigBen" against the opposing D.

I agree with that. OL started of with what 5-6 penalties in the first 15 minutes. They really struggled all day and no one expected them to be that bad. We would have won with Bradford but barely as our offense wasn't clicking at all. Broyles' fumble hurt really bad. Our defense played pretty well I thought. I too like the backup RB Brown as he is a north/south runner and hits the hole quick. Unfortunately our OL wasn't giving him many holes. With our OL? we wouldn't challenge for a title anyways. The defense especially our front 7 is stout when you have 8 DL that all will play in the NFL next few years. And our LBs are great too. If they stay healthy we'll give some teams some hell playing old school sooner football. Defense, turnovers, special teams and running game. If we can ever get the running game going. The schedules get set a long time in advance. Lots of teams refuse to come play in Norman. Notre Dame wouldn't come when after we went there in 1999. 10 years or so ago when scheduled that Miami home and away looked like something special.
Last years TCU and Cinci is what got us in over the hump in BCS points. I don't see us changing the thought of scheduling tougher non-conference games. Of course one cup-cake will always be in there. I just hate to see 4 cup-cakes on elite teams schedules.
