BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- The Southeastern Conference has suspended officials from last weekend's Arkansas-Florida game after the crew was involved in its second controversial call of the year.
Referee Marc Curles' crew called a personal foul on Arkansas defensive lineman Malcolm Sheppard in the fourth quarter as the Gators were rallying for a 23-20 victory. The league said there was no video evidence to support the call.

Anyone catch how that 3rd base ump completely *fudge*ed up that Yankee-Dodger game?
I'd be surprised if he still has a job.

Someone today said that call was the worst ever in baseball, but I disagreed. Don Denkinger made the worst call ever in baseball...because that blown call mattered.
Last night's was a no blood no foul call. But yeah, I was yelling at the tv, and I didn't even give a *feces*

Nope. Left the title general because I'm really starting to question the HONESTY of officials in sports, and whether or not things are being worked to achieve better TV ratings. This one is a prime example: A conference with a network contract AND the #1 rated team had phantom calls late in 2 close games that were to the advantage of said team. You just have to wonder WTF is going on. Yes, that includes MLB.

No way could referees in any baseball, football, basketball game televised by the networks effect a game. Just because there are gajillion dollars involved in contracts doesn't mean that refs could be pressured to do such.

I'm far more of the belief that they might be making calls in response to commands of Vegas (yes, spread betting generally works for the house no matter what, but there are tons of other complicating factors and bet types that could put them in the negative ....) and/or their own pocketbooks (bets) than on pressure from TV networks. If that were the case, no small market teams would ever win anything. New York teams would NEVER be out of the playoffs, etc...

In the case of the MLB post season, think about this: If the Angels don't win one of the two weeknight games, MLB is going into the weekend with no games scheduled and a week or ten days between the end of the LCS and World Series.

http://sportsillustrated....worldseries.ap/index.htmlNEW YORK (AP) -- Stung by a rash of blown calls in the playoffs, Major League Baseball is breaking tradition and sticking with only experienced umpires for the World Series. Longtime crew chiefs Joe West, Dana DeMuth and Gerry Davis, along with Brian Gorman, Jeff Nelson and Mike Everitt will handle the games, three people with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press this week. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because an official announcement has not been made. In 24 of the last 25 World Series, the six-man crew has included at least one umpire working the event for the first time -- baseball likes to reward newer umpires, plus replenish the supply of umps with Series experience. In each of the last two years, there were three new umps working the World Series. Oh the fix is definitely in, although it's another Occaam's Razor deal.
It's simply:
Budweiser, and Network Television. (Kinda like MFAWG said)
Esp. in MLB and the NBA. More games seen*, equals more dollars.
*Like Aske said, I don't think the market dictates it(East Coast-West Coast) but just that 7 games of Bud Light commercials is a better ROI than 4.
