Bowling for Soup
« on: November 11, 2009, 07:13:48 AM »

So, I stopped at a small beer bar yesterday afternoon on my way home from a doctor's appointment. The chalkboard outside says, "Tonight, Bowling for Soup." I figure it's some kind of game to bring people in on a Tuesday night. As I'm sitting there enjoying my Popering Hommel Ale, I see a couple of guys with guitar cases. I'm thinking, "no, it can't be. There's no way Bowling for Soup would be booked here." Seriously, this place is small, it might be able to hold 200 people.  So I ask the bartender what this Bowling for Soup is. He tells me its a band and I said "not the one that played 1985?" It turns out that one of the owners of the bar used to be a drum tech for them, so they were passing through town and would stop and play acoustically. It's not the full band, but it is the lead singer and a couple of others.

They played at nine. I went home for dinner and to try and talk my wife into going back. She said no, it's a work night, too late, blah, blah, blah. I thought it would be cool to see a fairly well-known band in such a small venue (one that had good beer to boot!).

Somehow, my wife finally gave in.  I have no idea why, she never gives in to my cajoling and begging (if ya know what I mean  ).  Just two guys played, the lead singer and lead bassist, although the other members of the band were there.  It's a fun band to listen to and I think they were having a blast playing a bar again.  The crowd at the bar was just the right size, full but not packed.  I was one of the oldest people there.  This morning I'm paying for that fun.

I'm betting you've heard "1985" on the radio.

LOL

Odd, because it's always on when Maddie is in the car.  I guess I've gotten to the point of "If it's not on The Fan", I don't hear it. Grin

Here's their cover of Chapin's Cat in the Cradle, but not exactly.  Good pop stuff.  I realize I've heard their music on the radio, but never knew who they were

Great band!

One of my guys took a day off and took his daughters to an all day concert and Bowling for Soup was there. He knew I liked the band so while they were playing 1985 he called me and just held up the phone. I almost fired him on the spot the bastard. And he probably got to see some flashing.

Pisses me off just thinking about it now. I might just fire him tomorrow.....
