yep

this is a problem, but NOT if*...  EROEI on equivalent drive unit ethanol  > EROEI available gasoline , s.t.c. that EROEI >1


the problem is the if* isn't true with modern technologies.

anyone see the guy go cross country in his vw bus that had its engine redone to run on recycled cooking oil?

used restaurant deep frying oil is the way of the future

I haven't seen that specific dude, but I've seen local news stories on folks that use old cooking oil for their cars.  Great idea.  Not sure how well it scales, though.

well, some plants are certainly far more efficient solar collectors than anything mankind will likely engineer.  but yes, indeed, global-scale... converting them to fuel oil type products without losing net energy...  different issue
