the great mental giant, Pat Robertson chimes in ...
"Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it. They were under the heel of the French, you know, Napoleon III and whatever. And they got togethter and swore a pact to the Devil. They said we will serve you if you will get us free from the French. True story. And so the devil said Ok its a deal, and they kicked the French out, the Haitians revolted and got themselvers free. But ever since they have been cursed by one thing after the other, desperately poor. That island of Hispaniola is one island cut down the middle - on one side is Haiti, on the other side is the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic is prosperous, healthy, full of resorts, etc. and Haiti is in desperate poverty. Same island. They need to have, and we need to pray for them a great turning to god, and out of this tragedy I'm optimistic something good may come, but right now we're helping the suffering people and the suffering is unimaginable. "

Time to pull out the Pat Robertson voodoo dolls.

I don't want to be seen as 'Defending' Pat Pat Robertson and his 'Blame The Victim Bull*feces*', BUT:
Even though he's got the chronology all screwed up, on of the Doc's DID claim to make a pact with the devil and/or be a demon in human form.

O/U final "death toll" from quake+disease/etc ?
My guess is 1M
That would be 4x the death toll of the Indian Ocean earthquake/tsunami which was a 9.1 in magnitude. If your prediction were to actually come to pass, it would make quite a statement about the quality of the infrastructure there.

I heard somewhere that buildings tend to just fall down there without an earthquake, so crappy infrastructure is pretty much a given.

It's the poorest country in the western hemisphere... the areas that had* running water and sewage are gone... you'll have 200k? (or whatever the initial death from immediate quake crush) rotting corpses, no hospitals to treat the wounded, no hospitals to treat the sick... Maybe I'm morbidly assuming the worst, but yeh, they have nothing there really. Hell, the best built building on their half of the island was wiped out.

Yes, in this instance, the Rev Pat Robertson seems to near the mark. A Priestess of the Dark Arts is credited for bring the Haitian revolutionary tribulation over the top. Clearly, God hasn't given a *fudge* about Haiti ever since. That one would follow the other makes perfect sense. Boukman and the Voodoo ServiceThis event was a Petwo Voodoo service. On the evening of August 14th Dutty Boukman, a houngan and practitioner of the Petwo Voodoo cult, held a service at Bois Caiman. A woman at the service was possessed by Ogoun, the Voodoo warrior spirit. She sacrificed a black pig, and speaking the voice of the spirit, named those who were to lead the slaves and maroons to revolt and seek a stark justice from their white oppressors.

LOL, so 1791=1840something in Pat Robertson's world?
Didn't click the link, but is a copy of the prayer given there?
Here's the exhortation to the dark lord:
"The god who created the earth; who created the sun that gives us light. The god who holds up the ocean; who makes the thunder roar. Our God who has ears to hear. You who are hidden in the clouds; who watch us from where you are. You see all that the white has made us suffer. The white man's god asks him to commit crimes. But the god within us wants to do good. Our god, who is so good, so just, He orders us to revenge our wrongs. It's He who will direct our arms and bring us the victory. It's He who will assist us. We all should throw away the image of the white men's god who is so pitiless. Listen to the voice for liberty that sings in all our hearts."

I'm going to guess no one will ever know the actual death toll.
And Olbermann has a tendency to be at LEAST as big an ass as Limbaugh or Robertson, and generally without the lulz.
