The rumor mill is spittin' fire and sparks and putting out a lot of smoke here in the 'Lou.

There is no freakin' way that this area can/should afford a(nother) new sports venue. Hell, they haven't even started, much less completed, the "ballpark village" that was promised when the taxpayers were extorted into kicking in on the new Busch stadium where the Cardinals play. The only reason they did as much as fill in the mud hole and put grass down was because of the All-Star Game.

On to Kroenke... married into WalMart $$$, but a pretty bright guy by his own right, or so it seems. It's been suggested that he'll sell his share to Khan, who apparently wouldn't mind 100% ownership. That free's up Stan to make a run for the Bronco's.

Zygmunt buys a plucky little club with a great history for 600 million.

The Queens play in a quaint stadium that the taxpayers have long since owned and have had a happy existence letting the sports franchise just rent it.  Until all the buzz about getting bigger, and better and building a new statism so the metropolitan sports commission decided to let the Queens use it for free.  True story.

Zygi: We need a new stadium.
State Legislators:  Why?
Zygi:  So we can compete.  You'll get your money back in hotel taxes, liquor taxes, parking etc.
Legislators:  I dunno.  It's a lot of money.
California dude:  I'll do it.  Move the team here.
Mn Legislators:  We can't let them leave.  This is a great town.  We're growing. Be as big as San Francisco in a few years, and just as sophisticated.
Mark (Zygi's brother) :  Very cosmopolitan.
Goodell:  Build something somewhere and my NFL will stuff loads of cash in your shorts.  It will double the price of the franchise, you'll get the Super Bowl at some point and the *goshdarn* idiot legislature will think you're a genius even though you own it and they're paying the bill.

Intermission

Act 2.  A brand new state of the art stadium has been built and the Queens trot on to the field for opening day.  The tax paying peasants weep at the gates.

Rich dude:  Want to sell this team?
Zygi:  meh.  Sure.  1.5 Billion?
Rich dude:  Done.
Mark:  What did we net?
Zygi:  Little more than double.  What do you want to do next?

It just amazes me that some of the domed stadiums have been torn down or basically abandoned.  THe Kingdome, the Silverdome, the Hoosierdome.  They're just not that old. 

The Edward Jones Dome is just over 15 years old and the Rams can move in 4 years because it's out of date.  As a kid that grew up watching the Cubs and the Bears play in Wrigley and the Packers at Lambeau; it's hard to accept that a fourteen year old facility is no longer suitable.  Just ridiculous.
