I saw the Top 10 box office receipts for this week, and I was surprised that Avatar was still in the Top 5. I thought that this could be some kind of record, but when I looked it up, it's not even close. It's got a long ways to go to catch even An Officer and a Gentleman, which grossed "only" $130 million.

Those charts are interesting.  Most of the movies are from 1990 and earlier which makes sense considering how the movie industry has changed.  But James Cameron manages to show up with the only two entries from the last 20 years, Titanic and Avatar.

Yeah, nowadays you really have to bank a lot of coin to stay in the top spots with so many movies coming out each week. I wonder if it also has to do with there being more theaters too. Did you think that these older movies stayed in the Top 5 for so much longer because there weren't as many theaters back then and people had to wait because the shows kept selling out?
