[Politics/Religion] I'm REALLY confused.

http://tpmmuckraker.talki...a_purpose_driven_life.php

That's from the Facebook page of J. Roby Penn IV, the 29-year-old oil-and-gas heir who serves as the mid-Atlantic director of the RNC's Young Eagles program.

This douchebag didn't have 2 grand in liquid assets (ie a credit card, or CASH which any halfway decent Democratic operative would have had)to pay the bar tab?

I'm confused too.  You think he should have used his own money instead of letting that other dude use PAC money?

Yes.

The way I understand the story to be is:

The Young Eagles of The GOP tell a prospective donor that they are going to take him to the hottest club in town, which turns out to be a strip club featuring lesbian bondage scenarios. They already know that the RNC will not in any, way, shape or form reimburse them for the trip.

So, they go and run up a 2,000 dollar tab for what I gather to be 5 or 6 individuals, which really isn't all that bad. It's probably 20 bucks a beer in there.

So, they go to leave, an RNC staffer (presumably one of the Young Eagles) presents his card, and it gets declined. At this point, they turn around and ask the guest to pay the tab, which he does.

They got caught because the RNC repaid the donor out of party funds, including a receipt from the club in question.

So, if you're one of the Young Eagles of the GOP who has an oil well in his pocket, why are you passing a fairly small bar tab (all things considered) to somebody else at the risk of all this trouble?

Ah.  That's what I figured.

My Dad used to say "Rich people are rich because they don't give money away."  That is to say that poor people are poor because when they get 20 bones, they go out and spend it.  To this day I'm poor because I seem to follow that logic.

I've seen it.  Saw this woman here (in Palm Springs.....) argue with a clerk (making 6 or 7 bucks an hour) about something she thought was on sale in an ad for 2 bucks cheaper than what it was.  Said she wouldn't pay that price and walked out.  To a waiting 70 thousand dollar convertible Mercedes.

My take?  As rich as this *fudge*er is he feels entitled (still) and when it got time to pay the tab (whether it was actually him or some other schnook) took the position of "You don't really expect me to pay this?"

And would stand that ground even to the embarrassment of the Eagles (or whatever) and the entire RNC.

I'm so rich I can make this go away doesn't compute because using my money to make that happen doesn't make me I'm so rich.

And there I thought it was just because they are incredible douchebags.

This is why I'm a Democrat, because you just KNOW William Jefferson Clinton hisownself would have peeled 5 large off his roll, stuck it in some Young Stallions (or whatever the Democrats have) jacket pocket and said:

'You boys have a good ole time and tell that little redheaded one 'Hi' for me. You'll know the one. Oh, and by the way: Don't come back without a 6 figure check from this guy, or you might as well use whatever's left for busfare back to Missoula'.
