Three Clubs Event.
« on: April 18, 2012, 10:38:48 PM »

Today we played a 3 club event(a bit of fun) so for the 18 holes I used my 3wood, 6 iron and putter.  I think that combination was fine, but when I got in a bunker I was stuffed. Next time I might swap the 6iron for an 8iron.  What three clubs would you guys use.

The good thing about getting old, is that you can hit the ball out of sight.

Most people assume that you need to include a putter.

I've often played 3 club events and used 4 iron, 8 iron and sand iron - I use the sand iron to putt with.  Wink

I'd probably use a 7-iron, PW, and a putter. As far as I'm concerned, a made putt vs. a missed putt is the same difference between hitting the fairway with your drive and hitting one into the woods and being forced to punch out.

This sounds about right, but I'd go with a 3 hybrid.  I putt almost as well with a bellied wedge as a putter (which is to say poorly in either case) and I actually practice chipping alot with the hybrid so I'd be comfortable lagging with it.

I was the sukkiest sukk that evar sukked.  And it wasn't my club selections at issue. Chiclet

Never played in one, but would love to try it someday.  I'd go with a hybrid, 8-iron, and putter.
