The wife is due for a phone upgrade and she's decided she finally wants to get a smartphone. I have the iPhone 4S because it's what my work has provided me. I like it, but I don't love it. I'm inclined to get her an Android based phone, but could be persuaded that the iPhone is the better option for her if the case is made in a strictly non-fanboi manner. Please note her usage is probably going to be limited to things like Pinterest, Facebook, Youtube, and Netflix. You know, the time-wasting side of smartphones.
Our price will be as follows for each phone:
Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX- $199
Motorola Droid RAZR- $99
Samsung Galaxy Nexus- $149
HTC REZOUND- $179
iPhone 4S- $199

I like it a lot.
Easy to use, fast and fun.
Don't know anything about the others.

I'm shopping too, and I just don't see other products out there that give the 'bang for the buck' the Samsungs do.

The thing that's really turned me away from iPhone is a story that appeared on fmylife.com:
"Today, I had to collect me daughter from the hospital. Her boyfriend was even more upset than she was, because his iPhone's screen was damaged beyond repair when the doctor pulled it out of my daughter's *cooter*" FML
