what's the steepest price you'll pay as a fraction of your monthly paycheck for a bottle ?
example: you make 1000 a month, and wont pay more than 20$ 2%

Depends on what. I guess about 3%, though I'm not above spending 1%, or less, for some. I think Columbia Grand Estates Merlot, Cabernet, and Chardonnay are more than acceptable without breaking you wallet, especially if you let it sit on the cork for a bit. Lindemans, from Australia has some nice choices, also. For everyday wines these are good choices. Of course, YMMV.

$.02 in place of linedemans check rosemount estates for EXCEPTIONAL aussie reds in the $10-$20 range (2005 to 2002)

I like Rosemont Estates, also. Their Shiraz and their shiraz-cab are great. I'm not too fond of their Chard, but I'm coming around to it. For an inexpensive Aussie Chard, I like Banrock Station. Little to no oak. The Lindemans Pinot is surprisingly good for the price. 1999 to 2002 vintage is really nice.
