A Question for my Aussie friends!
« on: January 24, 2007, 01:13:27 PM »

On the way in to work today, "that" much heard and often maligned song came on the radio, you know the one. If you can get past the fact that I really like the song, especially when you hear it once a year.

And I have a few questions.

Traveling in a fried-out combie
What the hell is a combie?

On a hippie trail, head full of zombie
What is a hippie trail and why is his head full of zombie, and just what is this zombie?

Where women glow and men plunder?
Is this a nuclear reference? do the women glow due to some biological or chemical problem in Oz and do the men in Australia dress as pirates?

Believe it or not I do know what vegemite and chundering is, in fact I tried vegemite once and chundered, although the chundering might be directly releated to having my head full of zombie, will get back to you on that.

Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover."

Is the thunder dangerous in Oz does it find you like a heat seeking missile?

I said to the man, "Are you trying to tempt me
Because I come from the land of plenty?"

Now I've heard of the land of milk and honey, and I've heard of the land of the lost, and the land that time forgot, the land of the dead, is Australia the land of plenty and if so plenty of what?

Wow...right now my head is spinning with the possibilities, maybe someone is just "taking the piss" with me eh 2 Iron.

Kangaroos, yes, drugs, and boomerangs probably all feature as answers at least once.

Oh, and now I know who Seamus McDuff is.

If you haven't already, I strongly recommend looking into Colin Hay's solo work. He has an album called "Man at Work" which is primarily updated versions of Men at Work classics. Good stuff.

I'm sure one of our Aussie friends will chime in with answers to your questions around 9 or 10 am, their time, after they've had a few beers.

Head full of zombie- derrrrrr, they are stoned!
3.women glow- well we are just beautiful and have a lovely nautral glow Grin Grin Grin Grin
men plunder- yes well alot of them just plunder around making lots of noise but not doing much Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
4. Its going to rain, take cover or you will get wet!!!! Grin Grin Grin
5. Land of Plenty- Well I tend to think that everybody thinks that their country is pretty special!!! He is just having a little boast on how good Australia is.
Tommorrow the 26th, is Australia day, so we will all be celebrating, as it is a public holiday!!!!!

I liked Men At Work, and will take spaceage' advice and check out the solo stuff.
You know, if I would have known back then that the dude was singing about reefer and driving around in a VW microbus I might have followed them like the Deadhead's did.

Nah...maybe not.

i was just joking around,  but the fact you've heard of them  just shows the difference between  OZ and the USA.  Cool i could name 1000 bands from the USA on the forum  and nobody would have heard OF them.
