"Pay whatever you want" cafe

A Kirkland cafe with no prices http://seattletimes.nwsou...3558690_terrabite06e.htmlWith its blood-red walls and black leather sofas, Kirkland's Terra Bite Lounge looks like any other coffee shop — until you get to the menu. There are no prices listed. Terra Bite doesn't have them.
You read that right: No prices. Customers pay what and when they like, or not at all — it makes no difference to the cafe employees, who are instructed not to peek when people put money in the metal lock box.

interesting idea.
if it doesn't work, they could try it with like a $1-2 cover charge added in.

We have a place here called One World Cafe dedicated to the concept of "Everybody Eats." Basically you pay what you feel you can afford. http://www.oneworldeverybodyeats.com/home.html

Didn't know about that place Spacey. Pretty cool. Looks like the Cosmic Aeroplane crew just shifted over a block or two.

Yeah it's close, not close enough that I'd prolly go (Kirkland's about 20 miles from my present locale). I heard an interview with the owner Ervan this morning, it's an interesting story. Peretz argued that people are essentially good, but can be influenced by their environment. If people see good, they'll be good More than coffee, sandwiches or even convenience, Peretz is selling good karma. I hope it works for him, I want to believe it will. Good karma is a good thing.

Check out One World sometime if you're in the area, pretty good food. IIRC, they have "suggested donations" but you're not bound to them. Buncha tree huggin' hippie crap, though.

Buncha tree huggin' hippie crap, though. I like hippies. My CFO's wife is one. She always sends along home made granola to our corporate retreats.

It might stay open for 2 whole days. Only if it was midweek.

It might stay open for 2 whole days. I found a place in West Yellowstone Montana once that did "Drinkin' with Lincoln." IIRC it was $5 for a 5 quart bucket of beer and/or cocktails were 5 for $5. Good times.
