Tire question. I think we need new tires. '05 Ford Escape, with original factoy Continnental Counter Trac.(sp?) Got around 45k, been rotated a few times.
Question 1. Isn't there some test where you put like a dime in the threads, and it has to come up to his head or something?
Question 2. If I need new ones, which I'm sure I prob do. Any brand better than another?
Question 3. I will most likely, depending on your answers get them at Costco. Any reason to got to another place? Is it worth paying for the extra suff? Lifetime serice, etc.
Thanks bud.

I'm not MFAWG, nor do I play him on TV.
1. The coin test is with a penny: stick it in the tread (head-first) and see if tread blocks at least touch Lincoln's coif. Or just measure your tread depth. One-sixteenth inch is pretty standard as the inspection minimum. Measure wherever it's shallowest. Or just look at the wear indicators.
2. Yes.
3. Not touching this one.

Thanks, Clive. I heard of wear indicators, but don't know what/where to look.

Tire question. I think we need new tires. '05 Toyota Prius, with original factory Goodyear Integras. Got around 14k, been rotated once. Shoulders worn down, both inner and outer. Not an under-inflation issue.
Question 1. Isn't there some test where you scream at the dealer for the crap OEM tires that came with your tech-forward car?
Thanks bud.

Thanks, Clive. I heard of wear indicators, but don't know what/where to look. The bumps in the channels. When tread has worn down to them, it indicates that you should already have gotten new tires.

Question 3. This poster is on your block list. If you would like to see what this poster said, pull a *8==>* Cheney and tell him to go *fudge* himself Sorry to hog the thread, but ... The Tire Rack has this program where you can have your tire order drop-shipped to the local service place of your choice. They phone you when the tires hit, you drive down, and they do the work. Usually something like $25 per wheel (for the install, balance, and disposal of old tire). Thoughts on that? I've only used it instead of the local shop (for sourcing the tires) because of the much greater selection at TTR.

1. The coin test is with a penny: stick it in the tread (head-first) and see if tread blocks at least touch Lincoln's coif. Not to be confused with Lincoln's queef, if that happens your tires have a completely different problem altogether.

No, but it DOES take a pretty good pair of cojones to say: 'Hi, could you make a recommendation on the stuff that your competition sells, so I can go buy it there'? See what I mean? Anywho: I believe your in a 2157016 or 225 perhaps? Where do you live would also be helpful...

My Costco comment was more to our habits..........but the reason I even posted was because I know, and believe in guys like you out there, and that is where I will go. I was just lookin' for information on the tires.....I know the 18 y/o dude there just reads from "the handbook". Prob. doesn't mean anything now. I did what Clive said(wear indicators) and I'm still good for a bit. Sorry.
