Saw a Nike SQ Sumo in person for the first time today

Holy crap, that is one ugly *goshdarn* club!!! I've always said if it would help my game, I could get used to just about anything, but this thing? I don't know. Ugly, ugly, ugly. At least it's huge, so it's got that going for it. They didn't have any of the other new square drivers in so I can't give a comparison. The updated Hibore doesn't look too bad though. Not that much different than the original in terms of how it looks at address, but I did look at it right after I saw the Sumo, so my judgment might have been tainted.

I looks better than it sounds, and it sounds better than it feels. Words can't describe how much I hated the Sumo, and I'm not one to hate a club. I saw but didn't hit the Callaway. It looked nicer, but I don't know about the feel or sound.

tried one in golf galaxy today
looks - ugly sounds- uglier
feels- bizarre (does anyone know the stock swingweight??) felt like a sledge and a half
plays (on in store launch sim) - almost good enough to consider buying used in 12 months or so
i had just been at the indoor range (20 minutes early) where I hit about 140 balls (probably 40 with driver). i had been working on a slightly flatter driver plane there (also standing about 2" farther away than usual). after getting the timing of the 'release' down.... to hit a draw instead of a block... I was hitting low missiles consistently (nak 380 9* with evo R flex) that just started to turn left as they hit the dome wall (about 120 yards out)
the sumo at gg was a 9.5* (i think) with the stock S flex shaft ... i was getting the same basically ball flight (11-12* launch), about 230-245 carry (anywhere from 140-150 ball speed with their used balls) with good hits as I expect. the difference was the supposed roll .... typically 25-30 yards. i dont get that with the nak right now unless i really hook it or punch it insanely low. so i had 3 or 4 in a row on this sim that totalled out @ 260-275. i'd love to try one on a real range or course side by side with my usual driver. 15 more yards (consistently) on good hits would be worth it for $200 or so. not for $400+ on my budget .... but most interestingly, --- HOWEVER at this GG, they only have a low rubber tee that barely gets the ball to the top of the crown. i was playing it about 4-6" further back in my stance than i usually do. i think therefore the 'draw' was coming from the insanely closed face of the club. i think if i were to get one, i would need a 'tour' model or one that just got lucky and was made much more close to square.

Saw it in person at the golf show this weekend. I want one. Karen hates it. Done deal. lol Saw it in person again today! This time I hit it. (Oh, she bang! She bang!) Been waiting for the new Golfsmith to open up here, I think it was last week, so today, I ran over on my lunch break. I had limited time, so wasn't there long. The club. 1. Like I said before, I like it. 2. Boy howdy, it does sound weird. My first shot, I damn near dropped it, because I thought I broke something. 3. I hit the *feces* out of it. The launch monitors in this place are the best I have ever seen. The measure everything, and it is easily displayed, and interactive/intuitive. Club: Nike Sumo2 Square. 9.5* Factory Stiff (I'm not sure what brand they actually use) First Drive: SS: 98 MPH Launch angle: 14.6 Ball speed: 101 and some change. Path: 1.5* right. (still in the fairway) Distance: 248. Second drive: SS: 101 MPH Launch angle: 8.6 Ball speed 103.05 Path: Dead Dog Straight! Distance: 257. Interactive feature: Adjusted to launch angle of 13.5 degrees, distance would have been 267 (I think). Only 2 swings, in my work clothes, with basically no warm up. If I had 4 bills, I would buy one. We'll see. Overall rating: Looks, feel, playability, sound. I give it a 9. Oh, I also got a chance to hit a set of irons they had there as a trade in. Man, did they feel good. Like butter. Titleist 690.CB. I like those.

I hit it a couple times and hated it. Sound and feel. The Callaway was better but not going to get either one.

The good thing about getting old, is that you can hit the ball out of sight.

I tried one at the driving range at my club. I had been warming up for a few minutes with my Taylormade R7 Quad TP 9.5º with the Fujikura Speeder 757 Stiff. I had been hitting most of the drives over the fence dead straight at about 280 yards - which meant 295 -300+ or about 15 yards over the fence on the fly.
The demo tent was just a couple of boxes down so I went over and asked for a Sumo similar to what I was using. The guy gave me one with similar loft and shaft and I proceeded to hit about 20 balls. Dead straight and at least another 15 yards past what I was hitting the R7. I was enthused to say the least. It seemed I couldn't miss-hit the thing. It sounded weird for sure - but with results like that I could get real used to it. Much easier to hit than the R7.
After I started bombing the thing several other people on the range went over and picked one out. They too seemed to get better results - or so they said - even an older lady who didn't hit it as far as us guys - but still popped them out there.
Too bad Nike has to recall them - otherwise I'da bought one by now!

They have already be re-released with a stamp on the sole, stating MOI conformity. I do believe, however, the only drivers tested, and recalled were the square ones.
