I watched a bit of the Redwings game earlier and it dawned on me in clear and no uncertain terms: I really don't understand hockey. I guess I've just never invested the effort into cultivating a knowledge of the game. Just as well. Aside from a minor league team (I can't even remember with whom they're affiliated since they and the Stars parted ways a while back) I don't really have a team to root for.

I just can't get into hockey.  Same as spaceage, I suppose.  I just haven't invested any time/effort into it, and I really don't understand it.

I know, I know.  Skate around, and try to get the puck into the net.

Even living in "The State of Hockey",..............meh.

I'm a big Flyers fan, not really a hockey fan. In other words, I don't watch much unless the Flyers are playing, and I don't watch them too often because they are just awful. Far and away, this is the worst team they've put on the ice in my lifetime.

I was a huge North Stars fan growing up. Funny, because I never played youth hockey but I followed the game.

I've warmed up slightly to the Wild but I still miss the old Stars. But, for what it's worth, I'd rather watch college hockey these days.

Pens offense has been quiet lately.  I almost traded for Recchi and/or Crosby on my fantasy team this week, but went for Spezza and Vanek instead.

I was a huge Penguins fan growing up, my dad and I had season tix.  I lost interest after the 94 strike, and am just getting back into hockey this year.

Love my hockey...

I have a thread in that 'Other Place' about the team we used to watch growing up 2,000 miles away from the nearest 'Major League' team, and even with the Canucks a mere 2 hours away, I find myself supporting and following our local Junior Hockey team ( The Seattle Thunderbirds), particularly in the wake of the lockout.

It's not a complicated game, once one realizes that penalties are seldom more than a judgement call by the officials. My favorite penalty this year was:

'Unsportsmanlike Diving' (a 5 minute major) which is what they call when you keep making yourself look like an asshat by falling down every time somebody comes within 4 or 5 feet of you.

It amounted to: 'Look, cut that crap out and go sit down'....  Grin

Imminent relocation?

Leaving Pittsburgh?

No fans?

Houston Penguins?

Portland Penguins? (sounds better than Houston)

Expired lease?

No team?

Empty seats?

Ok, I give up. What are the two words?  Devil

Get your facts straight, Flyer lover.  The Pens are among the tops in the NHL for attendance, and Kansas City is the only serious suitor.  No No

Of course, when a new arena deal for Pittsburgh is reliant upon the Governor of Philadelphia to make an effort on our behalf, we typically end up with a bunch of nothing.  He can't spare the dime because he has all the State money tied up in kickbacks, bribes, and contracts for his backroom cronies. Shhh

Word on the street here is that Kansas City is Kansas City, but Portland has MicroSoft type money interested. Here in the PacNW, what guys with Microsoft money want, guys with Microsoft money usually get...
